Meet Stormy and Nate, who live in Colorado and had a perfectly classic Colorado Engagement Session; with cowboys and horses too! Stormy’s mom Robin has been a longtime follower of my work and when Stormy became engaged they just knew they wanted me to photograph the wedding here in Indiana. I really feel engagement sessions are important to being able to properly photograph the wedding day, because knowing my clients and how they like to be photographed isn’t something I want to be learning on the fly the day of!
So I decided I would go to Stormy and Nate, who live in Craig, Colorado because they couldn’t come here. The wedding was set for September 9th, so on the first weekend of August I sent my boys off to friends, packed up the one year old and my husband of course and flew off to Denver. A 4 hour drive later we arrived in a little town called Craig, just a thirty minute drive from the Wyoming border!
After a good nights rest, some sight seeing in the morning we finally got to meet Stormy and Nate for their engagement session. We all loaded into Nate’s truck, with his horse trailer behind and first went to his parents ranch Yampa Valley Fiberworks. Vast open fields, with hills and mountains in the distance; it was starting to rain a bit giving a moody feel. Perfect! We took photos with Nate’s horse there and used the hay as some great props. Eventually moving on to the mountains and at the very end a river, it was a wonderful engagement session. The sun came out for us in the end, kissing the mountains and the grass.
I love Indiana, but give me some mountains any day! It was great stepping outside of where I normally work, getting to see the places my clients live and love. Nate and Stormy were perfect in front of the camera, like this wasn’t their first rodeo! Nate is definitely a comedian too! That is for sure!
Their wedding has already happened here in Indiana, so be on the lookout for that blog post soon because you will just swoon!
