A Final Journey | South Bend Hospice Photography

Today an amazing woman will be laid to rest, taking her final journey she is no longer in pain and is with God. She was one of the sweetest women I knew and raised some amazing kids. Her son is one of my best friends and even though due to circumstances we haven’t been as close, he is always in my thoughts. The rest of her kids are also amazing people and I consider all of them to be like family.

Last week, shortly before she passed they asked me to come and take some final photographs of her with them. Sadly she was too sick and weak to realize I was even there, but I photographed her with her children, her grandchildren and her devoted husband. Giving them one last tangible memory before she left this earth.

I talk a lot about how I am honored to be chosen to document my clients most cherished memories and I am, but it isn’t often I am asked to document a goodbye. To be a part of something so sad and moving really is an incredible honor. It is a gift that I have this art form that I love so much that I can help people during some of the happiest and most painful times.

I was blessed to know Mrs. Balmer, to know her family for so many years and to continue to know them. I know that even though she is no longer with us in life, she really is with us all in spirit. She lived for her family and she will always be with them.
